YMCA: Worthington Area YMCA opens up summer program registration
WORTHINGTON -- With summer not too far away, the Worthington Area YMCA will be starting signups for a variety of summer programs in the coming weeks.
In addition to all summer programs, the YMCA is offering a free nutritional lunch to all youth in the community at the YMCA from noon to 1 p.m. during the week in cooperation with District 518 and the Viking Children's Fund.

YMCA Kids' Night Out
The YMCA is hosting another Kids' Night Out event Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Worthington YMCA for boys and girls from first to fourth grades.
Kids will get the chance to swim and play gym games. The program will provide snacks for all the participants.
Pre-registration is required for the event.
Preschool Day Camp
The YMCA will be bringing back the Preschool Day Camp this summer on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for boys and girls ages three to five. The camps go from 9:30 a.m. to noon and will last for five weeks.
Kids will enjoy games as well as arts and crafts.
The program will run from June 3 to July 2, with a registration deadline of May 26.
Summer Day Camp
The YMCA/City Summer Day Camp is back again this year and will now be offering partial day/week and full day/week camp opportunities for all grade school students (finishing kindergarten through fourth grade). Kids will participate in crafts, games, swimming and field trips.
The camps will run from June 3-July 12, with registration due May 26. New this year, the YMCA will offer a two-week extended camp option from July 15-26 (deadline to register is July 10).
Track, tennis, golf program
The Worthington Area YMCA and the City of Worthington will once again be offering track, tennis and golf programs this summer. The programs will last for approximately six weeks.
Programs are available to boys and girls finishing kindergarten through eighth grade.
Track will take place Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the Worthington High School track complex.
Tennis will meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the Minnesota West Tennis Courts.
Golf meets Monday and Thursday at Prairie View Golf Links.
The programs will run from June 3-July 12, with registration due May 26.
T-Ball and peewee baseball
The T-Ball and peewee baseball program is back again this year, running during the week for six weeks. Each player will get one night of practice along with one game a week.
T-Ball is available for boys and girls in preschool to those finishing kindergarten this year.
Both programs will play at the Centennial Baseball Fields, with T-Ball on Wednesday nights and Peewee baseball on Thursday nights.
The programs will run from June 3-July 19, with registration due May 22.
Baseball and softball
Baseball and girls softball is being offered again this summer by the YMCA and the City of Worthington. There will be a rookie (finishing second and third grades) and junior league (fourth through sixth grade) for boys' baseball, while girls' softball will be offered in two separate groups (third through fourth grades and fifth through sixth grades).
The rookie and junior baseball leagues will practice Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the middle college field, with games for the rookie league taking place Monday and Wednesday nights and games for the junior league being played on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
Girls' softball will practice Tuesday and Thursday mornings as well, but will play their games throughout the week at the upper college field.
The junior baseball league and the girls' softball league will also be participating in a traveling league with teams in area.
The programs begin June 3, and will go for approximately six weeks depending on the game schedules. The registration deadline is May 22.
Middle School Overnight
This year's Middle School Overnight starts on May 10 at 8 p.m. and ends at 7 a.m. on May 11 at the Worthington Area YMCA.
Kids in grades five through eight will get the chance to play video games, watch movies, enjoy a variety of music as well as play in the gym and swim in the pool.
There will be separate rooms for both boys and girls to sleep in if they feel the need, however, activities will go all night long.
Registration is due before May 9. Pre-registration for the event is required.
