Notice of Public Comment Period / Opportunity for Public Hearing

Notice is hereby given that a public comment period shall take place to review the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) covering improvements at the Worthington Municipal Airport. The public comment period ensures that citizens, agencies and others have an opportunity to give input regarding the EA and its findings.

Members of the public also have the opportunity to request a public hearing. The purpose of a public hearing is to provide a forum to discuss preliminary information concerning an action’s potential economic, social, and environmental effects. You have 15 days from the date this Notice of Opportunity for a Public Hearing to make a request. Thus, your request for a Public Hearing must be postmarked by August 16, 2014. Any such request must be in writing to the contact identified below (Dwayne Haffield).

The City of Worthington and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have reviewed the proposed action in the Draft EA consistent with requirements established under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The proposed improvements include:

• Extension of Taxiway C approximately 1,100 feet to the north (35 feet wide) on its current alignment.

• Construction of a connector taxiway from the end of the Taxiway C extension to the existing Runway 18 threshold (400 feet long, 35 feet wide).

• Corresponding extension of Medium Intensity Taxiway Lights

These improvements are required for safety and operational purposes, and will comply with Federal Aviation Administration regulations as well as all other applicable regulatory requirements. Copies of the Draft EA, which documents the Purpose and Need for the project, and reviews its potential for social, economic, and environmental impacts, are available for public viewing during standard business hours at the following locations:

The public comment period is open from August 1 to August 30, 2014. Comments will be received and will become part of the EA document administrative files. The comments will be considered when making future project-related decisions. All comments must be in writing and postmarked by August 30, 2014. Comments should be sent to:

You may also email comments to Mr. Haffield ( no later than August 30, 2014. In addition, the FAA has made a determination, in accordance with rules associated with the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, that the proposed action will not affect historic properties. The State Historic Preservation Office has concurred with this finding. This issue is covered in greater detail in the Draft Environmental Assessment, and public, thus, has the opportunity to comment on the FAA’s determination regarding historic resources using the procedures outlined above.
