LAKEFIELD — The Best Independents Restaurant Association (BIRA) has awarded Lakefield’s Hi-Lo Supper Club with its 2008 Best Casual Restaurant Plate Award.

After a mystery shop with national guidelines and standards, BIRA judged the Lakefield restaurant to meet its requirements for the award.

“The Hi-Lo Supper Club has distinguished itself as one of the best restaurants in southwest Minnesota,” said Robert Skrob, executive director of BIRA. “Our mystery shoppers gave us a terrific report, and we are proud to include the Hi-Lo Club in our exclusive nationwide directory.”

BIRA is a national trade association encouraging consumers everywhere to dine at the nation’s best independent restaurants.

“We are very honored,” Hi-Lo Supper Club owner Syd Malchow said. “We love to give a ‘wow’ experience to our guests. The Platinum Plate for Best Casual Restaurant is a big honor to our whole family.”

The award was personally presented by Chef David Adjey, star of the Food Network’s “Kitchen Makeovers.”
