Redwood Valley takes a pair from Worthington, 10-5 and 7-6

REDWOOD FALLS — After earning a five-run victory in the first game of a Southwest Conference softball doubleheader Monday, the Redwood Valley Cardinals held off the Worthington Trojans in the nightcap to complete the sweep.
RV won by scores of 10-5 and 7-6.
Worthington’s Kristen Dierks (Game 1) and Emily Ebbers (Game 2) each hurled a complete game, combining to walk 11 and strike out four batters.
Lynn Harberts was 2-for-4 in the opener, and Jordan Wiertzema cracked a bases-loaded, three-run double and later scored on a passed ball in the fourth inning to spark the Trojan offense.
Worthington, which committed 10 errors on the day, put together another four-run inning in the second game, as the Trojans rallied from a 7-2 deficit to make it a one-run game in the bottom of the seventh.
Worthington’s Kaela Wiese had a two-run double in the seventh, and the Trojans had the bases loaded with two outs before the Cardinals got the final out on a hard smash up the middle off the bat of Wiertzema to end the game.
Wiertzema and Lydia Mick each had two hits in the second game.
Worthington (0-4, 2-7) visits Marshall for another league doubleheader Thursday.

JACKSON — Windom and Jackson County Central split in a Southwest Conference doubleheader, with the Eagles earning a one-run victory in the opener before the Huskies won by six in the nightcap.
Windom’s Abby Lund earned the complete-game victory in Game 1, as she didn’t issue a walk and fanned one batter.
Karissa Borsgard and Megan Mattson each two hits for the Eagles, while Ellie Hormig was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Kate Rentschler, who struck out 15 and walked six in seven innings in the circle, smashed a three-run home run in the third inning for JCC. Megan Bezdicek was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
JCC started the second game with a pair of three-run innings, and Kelsey Hakes hurled a complete game with six strikeouts and two walks.
Bezdicek (three-run home run in the second) and Sarah Luhmann (two-run double, triple) were each 3-for-4 to lead JCC. Rentschler (two RBIs) and Stacey Schuller each had two hits.
Steph Utech tossed a complete game for the Eagles, fanning four and walking four. She also had a double.
Morgan Borgsard and Alli Holt each had a single, and Karissa Borsgard scored a pair of runs.
JCC (4-2, 7-2) visits Luverne today.

EDGERTON — Luverne and Edgerton combined to pound out 27 hits, and the Cardinals jumped out to a 5-2 lead before earning a two-run victory over the Flying Dutchmen.
Kat Dahl (double, triple, four RBIs), Mikki Fitzer (double), Paige Olson and Steph Schultz (triple) each had two hits to lead Luverne’s 11-hit offense.
Kelsey Theesfeld hurled a complete game for the Cardinals, walking four and striking out four.
Edgerton’s Katie Hadler also pitched seven innings, walking seven and fanning two batters.
Edgerton (3-5) ripped 16 hits, with four coming from Sammi Vanden Bosch.
Hadler (triple), Kaci Corbin, Emily Sluis, Dulci Boyum and Hailey Van Kley (double) cracked two hits apiece for the Flying Dutchmen, who host Murray County Central today.
Luverne (4-5) hosts JCC today.

ELLSWORTH — The Adrian Area Dragons (3-3) dropped both games of their doubleheader to the Lynx by the same score Monday afternoon in non-conference softball action.
Katie VandenVoort struck out 11 and walked one to earn the victory on the mound for the Lynx in Game 1.
The Dragons’ Karli Meyer gave up four earned runs on nine hits while striking out five and walking four in suffering the loss.
Briana Neibuhr and Brooke Kramer each had singles for the Dragons, while Mary Loosbrock hit a double.
In Game 2, Tracy Thomes struck out six and walked one to earn the victory for the Lynx.
Meyer again suffered the loss for Adrian Area, allowing four earned runs on six hits. She struck out one and walked three in the nightcap.
Sam Lynn and Loosbrock each had singles, while Meyer had a double.
The Dragons host Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove today in an RRC tilt.
