Worthington VFW goes 1-1-1 over weekend

BRANDON, S.D. — In its first three games of the season, the Worthington VFW won a game, lost a game and tied a game over the weekend. In the first game, Worthington managed just three hits and committed six errors in a 7-0 loss to Sioux Falls East.

In the first game, Worthington managed just three hits and committed six errors in a 7-0 loss to Sioux Falls East.

Cody Melendrez, Derek Lee and Logan Neyens each had a single for Worthington.

Ethan Duffy suffered the loss on the hill, allowing four earned runs on six hits while walking four and striking out eight.

In the second game, Worthington and Brandon Valley played to a 4-4 tie.

BV had an early 3-0 lead before Worthington came back and tied the game. Due to time limitations, the game was called after just five innings.

Adam Munkel threw four and a third innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit while striking out six.

Tyler Stugelmeyer had a pair of hits and an RBI for Worthington, while Lee and Neyens each had a single.

In the third game, Worthington’s bats came alive in an 11-2 five-inning victory.

Worthington scored one run in the first and 10 runs in the fourth, en route to the win.

Lee earned the victory on the hill, allowing one earned runs on three hits while striking out two and walking none.

Justin Larson had a pair of hits including a double, and drove in three. Duffy also had a pair of hits and three RBI, while Munkel had two singles and drive in two runs in the game.

Worthington will travel to Pipestone Thursday.
