Two dead, one injured in Friday crash

DARFUR — Denis Schmitz, 72, and Mary Schmitz, 73, both of Sanborn, were killed in a two-vehicle accident Friday afternoon near Darfur.
The Minnesota State Patrol responded to the broadside accident at 12:54 p.m. Friday at Minnesota 30 and Cottonwood County 1 west of Darfur.
According to the accident report, Denis Schmitz was driving a 1997 Lincoln Town Car. Michael Inglett, 57, of Fairmont, was driving a 1999 Mack semi pulling a belly dump loaded with hot mix, eastbound on Minnesota 30. The vehicles collided in the intersection.
Mary Schmitz was pronounced dead at the scene. Denis Schmitz was taken to Windom Area Hospital, where he later died.
Inglett was ejected from the semi and was taken to Windom Area Hospital and airlifted to Sanford Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D., with serious injuries. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, he was in critical condition.
Both vehicles were declared total losses.
