Letter: Time for U.S. troops to leave Iraq

I’m a World War II vet and I have seen my share of death and destruction. In that conflict we knew who our enemy was, but this one you don’t. It could be the person sitting beside you.
Basically, these terrorists are radical Muslims and they have this “jihad” thing going — “if you don’t believe the way I do, I can kill you.” I would love to ask them what they think their situation would be if Hitler won World War II. And, also, what would this world be like if all religions had this nutty idea?
There is a Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, Calif. These jihad jokers should take a look at that museum — it is basically the Holocaust — but what I appreciated about it was the plaque at the exit. It said live and let live, get along with your fellow man, try to live with your neighbor; they didn’t try to convert you to their Hebrew religion.
This war will not be won with bombs and bullets. You have heard that the pen is mightier than the sword. What is needed is a heavy dose of education. There is a Muslim sitting in jail in Egypt who wrote a manifesto twisting the Koran into this jihad idea. And those nuts bought it. I have read an article in the paper that he has second thoughts about this manifesto. I have also read that the Turkish government is thinking to rewrite the Koran, as there are some things in there they think their prophet Mohammed didn’t mean; someone has changes in his thoughts or words. So, there is a glimmer of hope.
It is time to get out of Iraq. This is a religious war. These Muslims don’t know who should be in control. Put yourself in a male Iraqi citizen’s position — why should I join a police or security force as long as the Americans are doing it for me?
