Ellsworth Family Fun Days begin Friday

ELLSWORTH — “Pulling Together for Family Fun” is the theme for Ellsworth’s annual Family Fun Days celebration Friday through Sunday.
Several new activities have been added, according to Ellsworth Optimist president Randy Buntjer. The Optimists organize the celebration.
Events get under way on Friday with a Zion Presbyterian Bible School baked potato feed in the Ellsworth school cafeteria from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by crowning of Little Miss Ellsworth at 7 p.m.
A co-ed alumni basketball game has been added this year and will begin at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, registration begins at 6:45 a.m. at the shelter in the city park for the celebration’s 5K run, two-mile walk and the kids’ one-mile run/walk. The two-mile walk begins at 7:45 a.m., with the 5K run getting under way at 8 a.m. and the one-mile kids’ walk starting at 8:30 a.m. There are seven age divisions for the event, and prizes will be awarded to the top finishers.
The school will host a three-on-three boys and girls basketball tournament beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, with a tractor pull starting at 10 a.m. behind the fertilizer plant.
A Boys Little League game will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday in the city park, with Ellsworth taking on Sibley, Iowa.
Inflatable rides and the midway will open at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, closing for the 7:30 p.m. parade, and then reopening until 10 p.m.
Rockin’ Rob DJ and karaoke will provide entertainment beginning at 9 p.m. at the Ellsworth Bar & Grill.
Sunday activities include a pancake and sausage breakfast in the school cafeteria from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and a community worship service at 10:30 a.m. in the school’s gymnasium.
A co-ed sand volleyball tournament, which is also new this year, will start at noon Sunday at the city park. Teams consist of three guys and three gals who must be registered before the end of today by calling Rhonda Groen at (507) 967-2475.
The inflatable rides and a dunk tank will be operating at the city park from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
An Old Timers softball game, for those ages 40 and older, will start at 2:30 p.m. The game will have town residents versus country residents.
The celebration wraps up at 4 p.m. Sunday with the drawing.
