Letter: Regatta made for great weekend

My head’s still spinning from the amazing weekend you concocted. You and your community are true inspirations to those of us failing in resolve to create such unqualified joy for so many.

My head’s still spinning from the amazing weekend you concocted. You and your community are true inspirations to those of us failing in resolve to create such unqualified joy for so many.

I know it took tremendous sacrifice through extended planning. I know there had to be moments of doubt. And I know nothing comes of nothing. The passion you have for this event carried us all, brought us together in times that seem to be pulling us apart and gave us more wonderful memories to carry for a lifetime.

Our band was deeply honored to play again, let alone carry headline billing. Brother David Steindl Rast says joy is a necessary consequence of gratitude. When asked for what, he replied, “For opportunity to participate.” You gave us tremendous opportunity to participate, I was filled with joy all the way home Sunday morning and still carry deep warmth in my heart for all the seeds of nourishment you sew.

On Friday, the Boy Scout chaplain narrated a poem on the beach for me. It was inspired from the Psalm of gratitude — “my cup runneth over.” Albert’s never-ending smile and warmth is God manifest in the soul. The children dancing on the grass, the moon playing the sky, the rich texture of a multi-race audience and community, the warm sprinkle of rain, the harmony and rhythm of wind and song … it’s tears … tears of joy … my cup runneth over.

I’ll write more later, but for now I just wanted you to know how much your efforts were appreciated.
