SLAYTON — These days, it seems like everyone has a cell phone, from children to seniors. Having a cell phone nearby has become a way of life and makes it easy for everyone to stay connected. A new store in Slayton is helping make that happen.

Cellular Assurance has been open for three weeks, and manager Casey Johnson is pleased with how well business has been.

An authorized Unicel agent, Cellular Assurance offers free cell phone activation and a 30 day guarantee, along with free incoming calls and text messages. Customers who switch to Unicel from another company will receive $50 off their first bill.

Not only is Johnson the manager, but she is also a Unicel customer.

“We offer a great coverage area,” Johnson said. “With plenty of towers, I have not had a dropped call yet.”

Cellular Assurance, located at 2502 Broadway Ave., opened its doors June 2 and is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

“I’m very satisfied with business for only being open for three weeks,” Johnson said.

An open house is planned for 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, and Johnson said there will be a variety of specials, including 20 percent off all accessories. Pork burgers will be served, along with root beer floats served by the Murray County Dairy Princess.

Along with Johnson, Cellular Assurance employs two others, Julie Jurrens and Terri Swanson.

With Unicel, plans come with other features that can be purchased, such as off peak rollback, which allows the customer to start night time calling three hours earlier, and BREW applications to personalize a cell phone with games, weather reports, ring tones and more.
