I read a recent editorial in the Daily Globe on violent video games marketed to children, and I heartily agree. Two years ago, after the law was passed by the legislature, I wrote a letter to your paper making many of the same points. I pointed out that while it is obviously wrong and inappropriate for children to be purchasing these games, the adult seller is more culpable and should be held accountable.
Regrettably, Rep. Doug Magnus and Rep. Rod Hamilton voted to protect the adult retailer selling violent and sexually explicit video games to children, while making a show of protecting children by fining children. I thought it foolish and wrong two years ago. After reading the editorial and learning of the $65,000 in legal fees paid out of state coffers defending this law, I now know it was stupid and wrong.
Thank you for letting me know.
