Obituary: Warren Nelson
Warren "Arty" Arthur Nelson was born on April 7, 1926, in Tyler, Minnesota, to John and Vendal Vieman Nelson. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school.

tricia Ann Moat were married at her parents' home. Following his discharge on October 6, 1952, they returned to the family farm in Ells-
borough Township, where they farmed and raised their three children. In 1988, they moved to Slayton and Arty worked at Finley Engineering in Slayton as the maintenance man for 16 years. Arty also helped his son, Jerry, on the farm.
Arty passed away on August 13, 2008, at his home in Slayton at the age of 82. He was a member of Sillerud Lutheran Church in rural Balaton, MN. Arty served as Chairman of the Board at Atena Church in Ruthton, MN. He also was a member of the Slayton American Legion Post # 64. Arty was
known in Murray County as Mr. Fix-it. Arty’s pride and joy were his grandsons and his flower garden. Arty enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, fixing and repairing things,
mowing lawn and farming.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Nelson of Slayton, MN; three children
and their spouses, Judy and Bruce Gellerman of Prior Lake, MN, Jeff
and Lynn Nelson of Fulda, MN, and Jerry and Chris Nelson of Balaton,
MN; two grandsons, Justin Nelson and Cody Nelson; four sisters, Helen Bailey of Camden, NJ, Edna Nothem of Canby, MN, Marie Mortland of Marshall, MN, and Alice Olson and her husband, Robert of North Platt, NE.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters, one infant
brother, three brothers, Herb, Rueben and Charles Nelson, and two sisters, Hilda Nelson and Selma Nelson.
The memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August, 16, 2008,
at Sillerud Lutheran Church in rural Balaton, MN, with the Rev. Steven Quist officiating. Interment is in Sillerud Lutheran Cemetery, rural Balaton. Military honors accorded by the Slayton American Legion Post # 64.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to time of service at the
Sillerud Lutheran Church. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton in charge of arrangements.
