Letter: Slayton's speedway a nice facility

The Murray County Speedway is a very nice facility. The concessions and restroom building is very nice, and the concrete patio with tables between the grandstand and concessions is a nice place to mingle with friends and sit and eat lunch.

The view of the race track is extremely good from any seat in the new grandstand. At present, plans are made to add more bleachers next season to better accommodate the huge overflowing crowds that have been attending the races and give people more room.

We have a great bunch of people working to make for an enjoyable evening. Our announcer Jeff does a professional job keeping fans entertained. There are the people in the announcer’s booth keeping track of the race car positions; the Lange guys, who do a terrific job of preparing the 3/8-mile track; the board of directors, which puts everything together and am sure probably catch a lot of guff; the flag men down on the track; the wrecker people; the trophy queens; ambulance crew; the fire department; the people working in the concessions; the ticket sellers; newspaper people who give full race coverage; and many others.. There are also the sponsors who help financially and businesses who donate prizes. I’m sure I’m missing others that deserve recognition.

Murray County Speedway doesn’t have to take a backseat to any other racetrack in southwest Minnesot. It is a nice track with good people providing good entertainment with a good racing program, with many different classes of cars coming from 50 to more than 100 miles away and bringing race fans with them.

Come on down and enjoy the races at the Murray County Speedway. Wear a happy face, and meet new and old friends. As the old sign at the pit entry gate used to say. “Cry babies not allowed and not in the grandstands either” See you at the Murray County Speedway.
