LARCHWOOD, Iowa — Residents of Lyon County will vote Sept. 23 on a referendum that would bring a proposed $90 million resort and casino one step closer to fruition.

If the referendum passes with a simple majority — 50 percent plus one vote or more — the proposal will be presented to the Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission for approval. The resort would be built on 197 acres east of Iowa 9 and northwest of Larchwood.

Proposed features include a 100-room hotel, a 1,200 seat events center, a golf course, a restaurant, and a casino with 800 slot machines, 24 table games, and a lounge with weekly entertainment.
