Prep Volleyball Roundup: Cardinals earn first SWC victory

REDWOOD FALLS — In a five-game battle Thursday, the Luverne Cardinals defeated Redwood Valley for the first Southwest Conference victory in the three-year tenure of head coach Kristin Schomacker.

Luverne defeated RV, 21-25, 25-22, 27-25, 22-25, 15-10.

Kat Dahl had 11 kills, 11 digs and was 22-for-23 serving with four aces to lead Luverne (10-8, 1-4).

Calli Sawtelle had 10 kills, while Paige Olson had 41 set assists.

Erika Rust had four solo blocks, while Sundra Xaphakdy was 20-for-21 serving with an ace, and also had 10 digs defensivley.

Windom 3, Minneota 0

MINNEOTA — Megan Ysker had 15 kills, 15 set assists, two blocks, and was 11-for-15 serving with six aces to lead Windom to a sweep Thursday night in a non-conference volleyball match.

Abby Lund added five kills, while Morgan Borsgard had 15 set assists and nine digs.

Allison Nau had 16 digs to lead the defense, while MaKenzie Lovell had a pair of blocks, and was 9-for-11 serving with two aces.

Marshall 3, Pipestone Area 1

PIPESTONE — The Arrows (6-5, 2-1) won the first game of Thursday’s Southwest Conference volleyball match against Marshall, but the Tigers recovered for three straight victories for the four-game win.

Game scores were 23-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-13.

Megan VanderPoel had 14 kills to lead the Arrows, while Rachel Tinklenberg had five kills and four block assists.

Jeena Lentz was the top server, going 14-for-14 with a pair of aces, while Amber Haupert was 14-for-15 serving.

Defensively, Brooke Henderson and Emily Aaland each had seven digs, while Brooke Woelber had six blocks.

RRC 3, Ellsworth 0

ELLSWORTH — After winning two close games Thursday night in a Red Rock Conference volleyball match, the Falcons defeated Ellsworth 25-10 in the final game to earn the sweep.

The first two games went to RRC, 25-21, 25-21.

Amanda DeBoer had five kills for Ellsworth (1-7, 0-4), while Brooke Kix had 10 digs and a service ace.

Becca Sieff had two service aces and scored seven points, while Molly Kramer had seven set assists.

Ellsworth will travel to Round Lake-Brewster Tuesday.

SWC 3, Edgerton 0

EDGERTON — In a cross-town matchup, Southwest Christian defeated Edgerton Public in three games.

Angie Vermeer had 12 points serving with three aces to lead SWC to a 25-8, 25-16, 25-23 victory.

Kayla Broekhuis had 10 digs and 15 set assists, while Kara Van Dyke had four blocks.

For Edgerton (2-9, 0-4), Katie Hadler was 13-for-13 serving with two aces, and also had three kills.

Alyson Drooger had four kills and two ace blocks, while Ashley Bostic had four kills.

Macy Butson had 12 set assists for the Flying Dutchmen.

Edgerton will be at Westbrook-Walnut Grove Tuesday.

SSC 3, H-BC 0

OKABENA — Katey Granstra and Erika Post combined for 15 kills to lead the Quasars (6-5, 4-0) to a Red Rock Conference victory Thursday.

Granstra had eight kills, while Post had seven for an SSC team that won 25-17, 25-15, 25-11.

Luanna Henkels had 18 set assists and 12 digs, while Kelsey Beyer added five set assists.

Jenna Leopold was 18-for-20 serving with 16 points and six aces, while Betsy Voehl had seven digs.

Meagan Stueven had six kills for the Patriots (0-7, 0-3), while Tanya Ackerman had eight digs.

SSC will travel to Adrian Tuesday.

Fulda 3, RL-B 1

FULDA — Mari Holinka had 15 kills and four ace blocks to lead Fulda over Round Lake-Brewster (25-22, 21-25, 25-19, 25-16), which has lost seven of its past eight matches.

Michelle Goedtke had 14 assists, and Chrissy Wieskus added 16 digs for Fulda (3-6-1, 2-2).

Chelsea Meyer had 10 kills, and Breanna Spartz had seven service aces to lead RL-B. April Wallace had two service aces, and Roshay Reimers had a team-high seven assists.

Fulda will travel to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Monday.

Adrian 3, W-WG 1

ADRIAN — Kourtney Kramer had 11 kills, and Ashley Thier had 31 assists to lead Adrian to a 25-21, 12-25, 25-22, 25-11 victory over Westbrook-Walnut Grove, which had its two-match winning streak snapped.

Hayley Vaske had six kills, three service aces and four ace blocks, and Karli Meyer had six kills and 10 digs for the Dragons, who snapped a two-match losing streak.

Katy Slater added nine kills, and Karlee Jackson had four ace blocks for Adrian.

Audra Schmidt had 15 kills, two blocks and a pair of aces for W-WG, while Taylor Elzenga had eight kills, 21 digs and was 19-for-19 serving with four aces.

Okoboji 3, S-O 0

OKOBOJI, Iowa — Kally Iedema had 18 kills, and Jessica Ackerman added 11 to lead Sibley-Ocheyedan in a 25-18, 27-25, 26-24 loss.

Hattie Hartzell had 26 assists, and Danelle Miedema had a team-high 11 digs to lead the Generals.

Iedema added 10 digs, and Morgan Gradert had four service aces.
