SIBLEY, Iowa — The Osceola County Sheriffs Department has been trained on LIDAR, a traffic tracking device.
A LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) gun uses light beams that bounce off a vehicle to measure its speed and distance. LIDAR is called ‘selective enforcement’ because it allows officers to track the speed of any approaching vehicle, even in heavy traffic.
RADAR, the traditional technology that picks out the fastest or largest vehicle in a stream of traffic, will still be used.
