WELCH - A Burnsville, Minn., man was jailed Monday on assault charges after he allegedly threatened a man with a chain saw in a Welch bar, the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office reported.

Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, David Vang of Pine Island notified authorities that he was at the Cannon River Inn when another man left the bar and returned with a chain saw, which was running, and reportedly threatened Vang. The bartender told the man to leave, and he did.

Deputies followed a lead that the suspect may have been staying in a van at Hidden Valley Campground nearby, but he was not there. Around 4:50 p.m. Monday, they responded to a request from Kevin Bohmbach, who lives on County Road 1 Boulevard in rural Cannon Falls, to remove an unwanted person from his home. That person turned out to be the suspect in the chain-saw incident, authorities said.

Donald V. Johnson, 46, was arrested and booked into jail pending charges of second-degree assault, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remained in jail Tuesday.
