Letter: Pro-life vote is urged
Like the Grinch of Dr. Seuss fame, many of us are covering our ears at this point in the election season and lamenting, as did the Grinch: “Oh the noise, noise, noise, NOISE!”By: Peg Olsem, Fulda, Worthington Daily Globe
Like the Grinch of Dr. Seuss fame, many of us are covering our ears at this point in the election season and lamenting, as did the Grinch: “Oh the noise, noise, noise, NOISE!” There indeed is a lot of “noise” — Who to believe? What type of “change” to hope for?
I challenge voters to get to the heart of what really matters when deciding who to vote for. If you listen with your heart, you will hear the “cries” of the unborn — those without “choices.” Barack Obama, for all his eloquent and poised speech, cannot answer the basic question of when life begins stating, “It’s above my pay grade” to make such a statement. It’s not a difficult question if you are a person of faith.
Life is valuable. Life is sacred. Life begins at conception.
It’s easy to lose sight of this vital piece of information amidst all the campaigning noise. So many important issues: the economy, war, energy, health care etc. But no other single issue more clearly defines a candidate’s core belief system as to how they “regard” life, particularly the life of the unborn. Our next president will hold vital “keys” to the protection of these unborn children. Senator Obama is decidedly pro-abortion. Senator McCain is pro-life.
So, amidst all the “noise” of this campaign season, find a quiet moment to consider the “rights” of unborn children, truly the “least of our brothers.” Someday, each of us will have to answer the question of what we did to defend the most defenseless. What will we say? Did we brush the “abortion issue” off as just another annoying hum of “noise” in an already deafening campaign? Or did we listen with our hearts and heed wisdom’s advice? Maybe, after contemplation, our hearts, like the Grinch of Seuss fable, will grow three sizes in one day.
