Edgerton, W-WG each pick up victories, tie for conference title
MADELIA — Racking up 459 yards of offense and scoring six first-half touchdowns, the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen (7-1) finished the regular season with an impressive 51-16 victory over the winless Madelia Blackhawks (0-8) in a Wednesday night Southern Confederacy high school football game.

Edgerton scored a trio of touchdowns and tacked on all three two-point conversions in the first quarter, building a 24-0 lead.
The Dutchmen expanded the advantage to 44-0 before the Blackhawks scored on a drive late in the first half.
Chace Hulstein scored a pair of EHS touchdowns and rushed six times for 111 yards. He capped one Dutchmen drive with a 3-yard burst and also caught a 27-yard TD pass from Alex Heard.
Heard (4-for-5, 54 yards, three touchdown passes) also completed scoring throws to Jordan Gunnink (17 yards) and to Marty Van Peursem (14 yards).
Gunnink had three catches for 84 yards, including a 43-yarder.
Van Peursem (six carries, 64 yards) and Brady Timmer (five rushes, 44 yards) helped EHS grind out 367 yards on the ground.
Pat Kleinjan returned a kick 75 yards for a touchdown, and Alex Elgersma rumbled three yards for a TD after recovering a Blackhawk fumble.
Gunnink, Van Peursem and Elgersma (one sack) led the Dutchmen defense — which allowed only 50 total yards in the first half — with 11, 10 and eight tackles, respectively.
Seeded second in 9-man, Section 3, Edgerton hosts Hancock in the first round of the playoffs Tuesday.

WESTBROOK — Josh Merrick scored five touchdowns to lead Westbrook-Walnut Grove to a 40-point victory and a share of the Southern Confederacy Conference championship.
Merrick ran for 193 yards on 12 carries and scored on runs of 12, 77, 5 and 38 yards in the game. He also had a 54-yard reception for a score.
Mason Comnick had 101 yards on 11 carries and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run.
Theo Johnson (11 tackles) added a 75-yard run for the Chargers (7-1), who ran for 472 yards in the game.
Derek Eichner was 6-for-10 passing for 75 yards and a touchdown.
Eichner led the defensive effort with 16 tackles, while Justin Knakmuhs had 12 tackles and Weston Dibble had 10. Merrick added two fumble recoveries for the Chargers.
W-WG will host Wheaton at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of the playoffs.

TRUMAN — Chris Luze accounted for three touchdowns as Hills-Beaver Creek/Ellsworth defeated Truman Wednesday.
Luze threw for 84 yards and had two touchdowns through the air, while running for a 35-yard score in the second quarter.
Casey Van Middendorp (seven carries, 67 yards, two touchdowns) scored on a 45-yard run to start the scoring, and Luze found Joel Van Batavia (three catches, 33 yards) for a 25-yard touchdown as H-BC/E had a 12-0 lead after the first quarter.
Luze found Tanner Leuthold (11 tackles, sack) for a 5-yard touchdown strike before Luze’s long touchdown run.
Van Middendorp and Kale Leuthold (13 tackles, two sacks) each had a touchdown run in the second quarter as the Patriots (6-2) had a 36-0 lead at halftime.
Terence Reid returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a 77-yard touchdown as the Patriots cruised to a 42-0 victory.
Colton Bass added seven tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception for H-BC/E.
