Lawrence “Larry” R. Ripperda, age 68, of Worthington, died after a battle with cancer Saturday, November 22, 2008, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Worthington.
Lawrence “Larry” R. Ripperda, age 68, of Worthington, died after a battle with cancer Saturday, November 22, 2008, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Worthington. He was born November 23, 1939, in Plymouth County, IA, to Joseph and Gladys (Kramer) Ripperda. Larry graduated from Rock Valley High School; and later attended a Vo-Tech school in Kansas City, MO. In Kansas City, Larry worked at Montgomery Ward.
Larry married Marilyn Maurer on March 19, 1961, at Calvary Lutheran Church, in Lester, IA. After their marriage, the couple lived in Rock Rapids, IA. In 1967, they moved to Worthington. Larry worked for over eighteen years at Armours, in Worthington, before retiring in 1983. He enjoyed watching football, NASCAR races, and outdoor activities including fishing, yard work and also woodworking. He treasured the time he spent with his family traveling the country exploring all but six states.
Larry is survived by his wife, Marilyn Ripperda, Worthington, daughter, Laurel (Ronald) Jacobs and grandchildren, Kyla & Matthew, Stewartville; daughter, Linda (Douglas) Handel, Menno, SD; son, Mark Ripperda, Luverne; two sisters, Madonna Plueger, Rock Valley, IA; and Mary Ann (Carl) Selken, Larchwood, IA; three brothers, Francis (Jamie) Ripperda, Austin, TX; George Ripperda, Rock Valley, IA; and Daniel (Karen) Ripperda, Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington. A private service & burial will take place later.
