A rural Wagner man who had been in custody at the Charles Mix County jail escaped at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Jim Chaney, chief deputy of the Charles Mix County Sheriff’s Department said, Jackson Sully, 19, of rural Wagner, was hiding in an empty cell block while other inmates “heckled” the jailer to divert her attention.

When the jailer returned to lock of the cell block, Sully ran past the jailer and out the front door.

It is unknown which direction Sully went but he does have family in the area as well as a girlfriend in Sioux Falls.

He was wearing a black Tt-shirt and red pants when he escaped. He is described as a 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, American Indian with brown hair, brown eyes and a goatee.

In September, Sully and two other men were involved in a high-speed pursuit that began in Platte and ended in Dante.

According to police reports, Sully allegedly stole a vehicle from Midwest Ag in Platte and was apprehended in Dante by a navigation system that was installed in the vehicle. Dante is located between Wagner and Avon.

If anyone knows Sully’s whereabouts, call the Charles Mix County Sheriff’s Department at 605-487-7625.
