The weather outside was frightful Tuesday morning, though it wasn’t bad enough to close schools in the immediate area. Still, with it only being early December, there will no doubt be plenty of snow and ice to contend with over the rest of the winter.
It never fails that we at the Daily Globe see many more accidents listed on the Nobles County Sheriff ’s Office and Worthington Police Department incident reports on days the weather is treacherous — and, naturally, that’s understandable. But that doesn’t mean a lot of these mishaps can’t be prevented by exercising a little caution.
Drivers should remember to slow down when driving during the cold-weather season. Even if the streets have been cleared in the wake of a recent snow, there may well still be ice underneath to slide on. Turns and intersections should be negotiated with extra care, and greater attention in general should be paid to the rules of the road (not that they should be ignored otherwise).
Let’s make the entire winter a safe one for everyone on our roads, highways and city streets.
