Minnesota's public broadcasters will get funds to help convert to digital transmissions.
A $792,000 Corporation for Public Broadcasting grant is the country's second largest, said Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., who has worried that many Minnesotans will be left out of next year's digital conversion.
“Preparing for the digital transition is especially important for Minnesota.” Klobuchar said. “More than 21 percent of our households depend exclusively on over-the-air broadcast TV. They will be most affected by the transition. This grant helps public television in Minnesota afford the necessary equipment to provide high-quality digital broadcasts for consumers."
The grant is for both public television and radio.
