LAKEFIELD — Before planning out its proposed regional nature and science center, the Prairie Ecology Bus Center board and staff want to get a well-rounded image of what people would want from such a center.
As a result, instead of only offering a public meeting open to all, the PEBC is opting to also invite specific people to the intergenerational dialogue from 2 to 6:30 p.m. March 1, to ensure many diverse opinions are heard. The meeting place has not yet been determined.
“This is the first step we’re taking to get community input on what our potential new regional science center should be,” said Chrystal Dunker, director of the Prairie Ecology Bus Center. “… We’re going to take the information that comes out of the dialogue and (decide) how the facility should be designed, its landscaping, what types of programming we should have in the future and how we should get people to volunteer for us.”
The dialogue will also be open to the general public and everyone in the southwest Minnesota region is encouraged to attend.
The group assisting the PEBC in organizing the intergenerational dialogue met Tuesday evening in Lakefield, collating lists of people to invite who could represent every living generation and a variety of different backgrounds.
The group also discussed possible personal stories that could be used to facilitate dialogue about environmental and science education at the proposed nature center.
