WORTHINGTON — Quickly: Could you name the country that shares the Yamana Islands with Argentina?
Eighth-grader Eric Lease could, giving the correct response of ‘Chile’ to become the winner of the Worthington Middle School Geography Bee.
Lease said he didn’t do anything special to prepare for the bee.
“I just like geography, I do it all for fun,” he said.
In second place was Andrew Fornoff, and in third place was Jacob Woll.
The 30 students competing Friday represented the highest scorers in each grade on a written geography test given to all WMS students.
“The students who do better tend to be good readers so they have that background from reading and a high interest in geography,” explained sixth-grade geography teacher Paula Wolyniec, who judged the bee.
