Ethanol plant fire update

LOOMIS, S.D. - A fire at the Poet ethanol plant at Loomis is contained and under control.

The fire started in one of the corn driers shortly before noon Wednesday. Crews from Mitchell and Letcher were on the scene.

During the fire, the plant continued business as usual. There were no injuries.

MITCHELL, S.D. - Crews from Mitchell and other nearby small towns have been dispatched to a fire at the Poet ethanol plant at Loomis, S.D.

The call for aid came just a few minutes before noon. Other crews were sent over the next 30 minutes.

The seriousness of the fire is unknown at present, but only a few small flames have been seen above the building. Firefighters are working in frigid temperatures, with wind chills dipping to minus-28.
