A Red Wing teen remains in serious condition at Regions Hospital after a train struck her car Friday night.

Local authorities said Margaret Bodensteiner, 17, rural Red Wing, was first taken to the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. A Regions spokeswoman confirmed Bodensteiner was later transferred to the St. Paul hospital.

At 8:57 p.m. Friday while traveling on Ski Road toward Highway 61, Bodensteiner slowed for a stop sign at a train crossing but couldn't stop before sliding into the crossing. The crossing is unguarded.

An oncoming train traveling at 65 mph was unable to stop, its conductor said, and struck Bodensteiner's car in the rear passenger side hurling the vehicle into a nearby ditch.
