GIRLS' HOCKEY: Cardinals downs Sioux Falls in girls’ hockey

LUVERNE — Mikki Fitzer and Katie Dahl each scored three goals Thursday night to lead Luverne’s girls’ hockey team to a 9-0 victory over Sioux Falls, S.D.
It was the season finale for the Cardinals, who received the No. 3 seed in the Section 3A tournament and will host fifth-seeded Redwood Valley on Feb. 13.
Luverne defeated Redwood Valley twice this season by a combined score of 18-2.
“The girls played really well, and we worked on a few things in the third period and changed some things around,” Luverne coach Dave Siebenahler said. “So the girls are coming around; we just have to be ready to peak here going into sections.”
Lauren Christensen, Morgan Sommers and Paige Olson each added a goal for Luverne (10-2). Olson had three assists, and Dahl, Sommers and Katie Eeten each added two assists.
Kelsey Theesfeld made eight saves in goal and recorded a shutout for the Cardinals.
