WORTHINGTON — James Harris, M.D., was announced as the Doctor of the Year during the seventh annual Doctors’ Day celebration earlier this week at Sanford Regional Hospital Worthington.
Harris, a surgeon, has practiced at Avera Worthington Specialty Clinics for more than 28 years.
Hospital staff submitted nominations for the award, and a multidisciplinary committee of hospital employees chose the recipient based on the “DOCTOR” criteria: Develops relationships; Offers leadership and availability; Communicates well; Treats skillfully and compassionately; Observes policies; Respects staff.
Nomination quotes included: “He develops excellent rapport with his patients and their families, spends time with them and explains what is involved with the procedures, risks and outcomes”; “respectful and supportive of the nursing staff and his physician peers”; “readily available for any staff concerns or questions regarding his patients”; “interested in competent, efficient, effective care for all patients”; and “We are fortunate to have such a knowledgeable, caring and compassionate doctor to work with.”
