PREP WRESTLING: Accolades for Adrian wrestlers keep coming

The wrestling season ended weeks ago, but the accolades for Adrian kept coming.

Seven Adrian wrestlers recently were named to the all-Red Rock Conference team, highlighted by freshman Nate Lynn, who finished runner-up at the state tournament at 103 pounds, and senior Shea Klooster, who finished fifth at 189 pounds.

Sophomore Brock Bullerman (145 pounds), junior Stephen Loosbrock (171) and senior Neal Mulder (152), who each qualified for the state tournament, were honored on the first team, along with junior Luke Tiesler (135) and eighth-grader Ben Mulder (112).

Adrian’s seven selections were the most of any team in the RRC. Windom/Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin landed six wrestlers on the team, and Fulda/Murray County Central had five selections.

W/ML/B-O junior Spencer Johnson, who finished runner-up at the state tournament at 171 pounds, and senior Sam Fischenich, who placed fifth at 135 pounds, highlighted the list of players representing the Cobras. Sophomore Drake Borsgard, juniors Josh Falk and Billy Hochstein, and senior Mason Anderson also were selected.

Fulda/MCC senior Justin Reinsma, who finished runner-up at the state tournament at 130 pounds, and senior Andy Henning, who finished fifth at 160 pounds, highlighted the group of players representing the Warriors. Elissa Reinsma (103), who became the first female qualifier in the history of Minnesota’s state wrestling tournament, made the all-conference team in her sophomore year. Junior Travis Radke and senior Scott Beech, who also qualified for the state tournament, also were named to the all-conference team.

Sophomore 103-pounder Ryan Schroepfer, who qualified for the state tournament, was the lone Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove wrestler to make the team.

Sophomore Ray Hagberg (171) and freshmen Taylor Vollmer (119) and Nathan Mattison (152) were honorable mention selections from RRC/W-WG.

Seventh-grader Vince Johnson (119), freshman Derek Swoboda (103) and senior Vance Blomgren (215) were honorable mention selections for the Cobras.

Freshman 112-pounder Austin Kluis and junior Derek Platt (119) were honorable mention selections for the Warriors.

Sophomore 160-pounder Dustin Polzine and juniors Jake Dorn (125) and Aaron Lonneman (285) were honorable mention selections for the Dragons.
