Obituary: Genevieve Peterson
Genevieve Eileen Peterson, 98, was born October 10, 1910, “almost a perfect ten” in Davison County, S.D., the daughter of Albert and Maude (Probst) Test. She attended school in Mitchell, S.D., and then attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell. She also attended Faribault Summer School of Christian Education in Faribault, MN, and Scarritt College in Nashville, Tenn.

Genevieve married George Peterson June 26, 1932, in Mitchell. She taught in public schools in South Dakota. She did proof reading for the Worthington Daily Globe for many years and did varies duties for the Nobles County Art Center. She also was an educational assistant from 1960-1975 at the First United Methodist Church, Worthington, where she began her membership in 1938. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and the Friendship Class. She was a previous member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Mitchell and the Wesley Methodist Church of Minneapolis. She had other memberships including Daughters of the American Revolution and the Ladies of the United Commercial Travelers of Minnesota-North Dakota. Genevieve died Monday, June 29, 2009, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington.
Genevieve is survived by two sons, Lloyd Peterson, Vincennes, Ind., and Ralph (Judy) Peterson, Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren, Eric (Cathy) Peterson, Jana (Brady) Slater and their children Franny, Henry and Jack, Rochelle (John) Howe, Rod (Katie) Peterson and their children Nicholas and Amanda, Russ (Michelle) Peterson and their children Trevor and Logan. She is preceded in death by her husband, George; one brother, Iwin Peterson; and one sister Marjory DeVries.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church, Worthington, with the Rev. Gordon Orde officiating. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery. Genevieve’s grandchildren will serve as casket bearers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church of Worthington and the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Fund.
