Letter: Hamilton voted for his party, not his constituents

I thought my state representative, once elected, was supposed to set aside party politics and fight for the interests of his constituents, their families and their communities.

I thought my state representative, once elected, was supposed to set aside party politics and fight for the interests of his constituents, their families and their communities. Instead, I watched Rep. Rod Hamilton ride shotgun as Governor Pawlenty cut apart the state budget and put the interests of wealthy suburbs over towns like Worthington.

Over the past six years, the City of Worthington has lost $1.8 million. The Worthington School District has lost $1.1 million. Rod Hamilton was there during those years, and he did nothing. In the last session, Hamilton chose to vote for the interests of his political party over the interests of the people he represents and now we are told we can expect even more cuts to our city, our county, our schools and our nursing homes.

Rep. Hamilton’s party recently promoted him. Apparently, the Minnesota Republican Party rewards people who remain silent while their constituents are being hurt. I think people like that should be out of their job.
