Letter: Pawlenty does about-face on LGA

I just don’t understand Tim Pawlenty. When he was running for the governor’s office in 2002, he defended local government aid (LGA), which provides for basic quality of life in cities and small towns around Minnesota. Once he was elected, Pawlenty drafted the current LGA program, sent it through the legislature and signed it into law. Now he’s calling his own program “municipal welfare” and blaming Democrats for trying to fund it.
Is it welfare to want public libraries in our communities, summer recreation programs for our children and police officers on our streets? I don’t think so. The governor used to agree with me. Now he has changed his mind.
