Letter: 'Cap and Trade' is deeply flawed

President Obama promised not to raise taxes on the middle class. “Cap and Trade” is not technically a tax, but will cost the middle class big time. The cost of fuel will reach European levels quickly. It is estimated that incomes of people who depend heavily on fuel, such as farmers and truckers, will be cut in half.
Cap and Trade is supposed to slow “global warming,” although the science gets shakier every day. It’s been cooling for the last nine years. Because of this inconvenient truth it’s now called “climate change,” so whichever way it goes the gullable politicians won’t have as much egg on their faces.
Cap and Trade will make Al Gore richer because of his “green investments” while the rest of us get poorer. It’s projected to cool the planet a fraction of a degree by 2050. There is a reason why Gore will not appear in any forum with anyone who disagrees with him, and there is a reason why Cap and Trade doesn’t kick in until after the 2012 election. It’s not about global warming, but a political payback to the environmental lobby.
Does anyone remember what Obama said when gas hit $4 a gallon? It was the right price, but it went up too fast. In other words. he wanted us to be miserable slowly instead of suddenly.
Although Bush and McCain drank the “green kool-aid” and undermined our free enterprise system by a massive giveaway, Obama is digging the same hole wider and deeper. Let’s hope the shovel breaks before we all fall in.
To slow down the government wrecking ball, the president and Congress should be required to read bills before passing them.
Cap and Trade will be more devastating to the economy than the Smoot-Hawley Tariff was in 1930. If the Senate passes Cap and Trade, I predict that Obama will go down in history as the most hated president of all time.
If the Democrats really cared about people, we would be building nuclear and drilling oil wells in record numbers yesterday.
