OCHEYEDAN, Iowa — Ocheyedan’s Days of Olde celebration returns this weekend with all the “Olde” favorites like the quilt show and tractor pulls. Organizers are also bringing back another event.
“We’re having a street dance, and we haven’t had one of those in a long time,” said Laura Vandermeulen, secretary-treasurer of the Community Builders, which helps organize the festivities.
“We’ll have the quilt show for women; that always goes over well,” she continued. “And the pedal pull for the kids, the kids enjoy that.”
Vandermeulen is hoping for a good turnout — and for the cooperation of Mother Nature.
“There’s always plenty of food and fun and friendly people,” she said. “It’s a friendly town.”
Events will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday with the Great Plains Tractor Pullers in the industrial park north of Ocheyedan.
Activities are planned all day Saturday. Attendees should bring an appetite for the parade down Cherry Street at 10 a.m. — there will be coffee and muffins before the parade, and homemade pie and ice cream after at the Senior Activity Center on Main Street.
Following the parade, the rest of the day’s activities are scheduled as follows:
Milford Antique Tractor Pull, 10:30 a.m. at the industrial park north of Ocheyedan.
Kids’ Pedal Pull, 11 a.m. in the public school parking lot.
Quilt show, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ocheyedan Christian Reformed Church.
Co-ed ball tournament, for ages seventh grade to adult, noon at the public school baseball field.
Northwest Iowa Tractor Pullers and Central Plains Truck Pullers, 6:30 p.m. in the industrial park north of Ocheyedan.
Street dance with music by Cold Stone Band from 8:30 p.m. to midnight at the south side of the Corner Club.
The Community Builders will serve pork sandwiches during the dance, and there will be food stands at all tractor and truck pulls and at the baseball field.
Events wind up Sunday evening at 7 p.m. with gospel music by The Crusaders at Ocheyedan City Park (rain site Ocheyedan Christian Reformed Church).
