Plane crashes near Jackson

JACKSON - An ultralight plane crashed at approximately 11 a.m. today about 2 miles north of Jackson in a bean field owned by Gene Michelson, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
Its pilot, Donald Reinen, 64, of Fairmont, was reportedly uninjured and emergency personnel found him walking out of the bean field toward U.S. 71.
Reinen said he was descending to make a landing at the Jackson Airport when the crash occurred, believed to be caused by a jammed or broken control arm. The plane received moderate damage to its nose and undercarriage.
Also assisting at the scene were the Minnesota State Patrol, Jackson Police Department, Jackson Ambulance and Jackson Fire Department.
