The 17th edition of “Corn Off the Cob” will take the Memorial Auditorium stage tonight and Saturday night. If your schedule remains open — and especially if you’ve never caught a “Corn” production — it’s something well worth checking out.

It should go without saying that each year’s production doesn’t exactly mark the arrival of a nationally renowned musical or theater troupe in Worthington. Nevertheless, there’s no shortage of talent in our community and region. Folks from Worthington, Lakefield, Okabena, Beaver Creek, Sibley, Iowa, and other area towns are in this year’s show, and the combination of genuine gifts for entertainment and familiar faces should help make the price of admission worthwhile for many.

This year’s “Corn” carries the title “Camping Capers at Olson Park,” which should offer standby characters Ole and Sven plenty of potential for humorous material. The production will also feature the return of the Prairie Thunder Cloggers, as well as some songs by local quartet The Gospelaires.

We fully understand there may be some cynics out there who think a locally produced, Ole-and-Sven show isn’t worth dropping a few bucks on. But think about it: 17 years is a pretty darn good run. It wouldn’t have lasted this long without being good, and without drawing sizeable crowds.
