Diabetes health fair offered
WORTHINGTON — “Finding a Cure for Type I Diabetes” is a free community program which will showcase some of the latest advancements in research being done at the University of Minnesota Schulze Diabetes Institute in partnership with the Spring Point Project.
WORTHINGTON — “Finding a Cure for Type I Diabetes” is a free community program which will showcase some of the latest advancements in research being done at the University of Minnesota Schulze Diabetes Institute in partnership with the Spring Point Project.
The event takes place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Minnesota West Community and Technical College, Worthington Campus, in the Fine Arts Theater.
It begins with a diabetes health fair, which features a variety of booths and will provide services such as free blood glucose and blood pressure screenings and exhibits by medical suppliers featuring the latest information.
The informational program begins at 7 p.m., with Dr. Brian Flanagan, U of M Schulze Diabetes Institute, and Dr. Hen-Jan Schuurman, Spring Point CEO. They will speak about cutting edge research being done on type I diabetes.
The program also includes subjects such as raising medical grade pigs to provide porcine islet cells for transplantation, clinical studies currently underway and more. A question and answer session will follow the program.

A health care provider forum will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Sanford Regional Hospital Worthington education classroom, which is also free.
