Alliant scholarships applications available MADISON, Wis. — The Alliant Energy Foundation is offering scholarships to recognize outstanding community leadership in first-time college students. Alliant scholarships applications available
MADISON, Wis. — The Alliant Energy Foundation is offering scholarships to recognize outstanding community leadership in first-time college students. Up to 25 $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in the fall of 2010 through the Alliant Energy Foundation Community Service Scholarship Program.
To be eligible, scholarship applicants must have participated in a leadership role in community service work or volunteer activities and meet other criteria.
Applicants are considered on the basis of leadership experience and community service or volunteer activities, academic grade point average, standardized test scores and the content of a 300-word or less essay submission. Scholarship awards are for one year only and are limited to undergraduate study.

George native to compete in China
ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Curt Van Wyk, George, Iowa, is among three Northwestern College students selected to compete in the Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest’s world finals in February in China.
Van Wyk is a senior mathematics teaching and computer science major.
Students perform in Christmas service
ORANGE CITY, Iowa — The following are students are members of the Northwestern College Women’s Choir, which will per-form at the annual Christmas Vespers services 7 p.m. Dec. 5 and 3 p.m. Dec. 6 in Christ Chapel.

The event, titled “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols,” is free and open to the public
Student honored with leadership award
SIBLEY, Iowa — Kevin Berkland, Sibley, has been awarded the American Youth Foundation’s National Leadership Award in recognition of his personal integrity, balanced living and potential for leadership.
The honor was presented by the Osceola County 4-H at its award ceremony Nov. 15 in Sibley.
Kevin is a junior at Sibley-Ocheyedan High School. He is the son of Dan and Loretta Berkland of Sibley.
Local man to perform in Christmas concert
WAVERLY, Iowa — Kyle Fleming, Worthington, will perform in the 2009 Christmas with Wartburg concert, themed “Tidings of Great Joy!”
Performances will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at Neumann Auditorium; 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, Iowa; and 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday at Neumann Auditorium.
Fleming, a second bass in the Wartburg Choir, is the son of Kevin and Pamela Fleming of Worthington.
