Letter: Walz's vote take away opportunities for many

If someone happens to see Rep. Tim Walz, would you please take him aside and privately (it would be too embarrassing to do it publicly) explain to him that when our National Anthem refers to America as the “land of the free, and the home of the brave,” it’s not talking about health care.

If someone happens to see Rep. Tim Walz, would you please take him aside and privately (it would be too embarrassing to do it publicly) explain to him that when our National Anthem refers to America as the “land of the free, and the home of the brave,” it’s not talking about health care. The “free” actually refers to freedom. Freedom from things like the estimated $3,000 per family tax increase that the cap and trade bill he supported will, by most estimates, cost. Freedom to make our own choices and decisions, not having those decisions made for us by the governmental regulation that his trillion dollar takeover of health care will bring about.

As for bravery, returning seven-tenths of one percent of your $299,000 office budget isn’t all that brave. Bravery is the men and women willing to stand up and fight for the things this country stands for, the men and women wanting and willing to face life head-on in this land of freedom and opportunity, and bravery is the politicians willing to stand up for and support those people. Your votes for huge government, huge regulations, and huge taxes are not brave. Those votes are taking away the opportunity for most Americans to live in a “land of the free, and the home of the brave.”

On the other hand, maybe just tell Mr. Walz “Merry Christmas.” Come election time, the free and the brave folks of southern Minnesota won’t be impressed with what he claims to want to “give” us. We’ll remember what he’s trying to take away.
