SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Forecasters said round two of a big winter storm was still headed toward South Dakota for Christmas.
The National Weather Service said a relative lull in snowfall on Thursday would be followed by heavy snow and strong winds beginning Christmas Eve night. Snowfall of 18 inches or more was possible in the east.
Meteorologist Mike Fuhs (foos) said bands of moderate to heavy snow would move through the state into Friday night, with some light snow continuing into Saturday morning. He said winds of 25 to 40 miles per hour would create snow drifts of 5 to 10 feet in rural areas.
A winter storm warning was issued for central and eastern South Dakota through Saturday morning, and for the west Friday through Saturday morning.
