Area man killed in Florida accident

LARGO, Fla. — A Worthington man and winter resident of Largo was killed Friday night in a motorcycle-pedestrian accident here.

According to the Tampa Tribune, the Florida Highway Patrol reported Lowell Schissel, 75, was walking east at about 7 p.m. across the northbound lanes of Starkey Road when he was struck by a northbound motorcycle operated by Randell A. Toombs, 28, of Largo. Schissel was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toombs was also killed in the accident. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, St. Petersburg, Fla., where he died later Friday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation.
