WORTHINGTON — Sanford Regional Hospital Worthington and Community Blood Bank will host a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at SRHW, 1018 Sixth Ave., Worthington.
This blood drive will benefit the local blood supply.
“During the first month of 2010, Community Blood Bank was forced to cancel six community blood drives due to the severe weather conditions. This has placed a heavy strain on the blood supply,” said Ken Versteeg, executive director of Community Blood Bank. “Community Blood Bank uses 550 units of blood per week to meet the needs of patients in our hospitals we serve. We are hoping this blood drive will help bring the supplies up to an adequate level to help get through the first part of February.”
Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health the day of the donation. Bring identification. It is recommended that you eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating blood. It only takes 20 to 25 minutes to donate with Community Blood Bank.
For more information, call 372-3319. Community Blood Bank is the sole blood provider to Sanford Regional Hospital Worthington and 28 other local hospitals. Walk-ins are welcome.
