ROCHESTER — The Minnesota West wrestling team competed well at the North Central District meet Sunday, and when the dust settled, two wrestlers will advance to the national meet.
Durvan Thompson and Ryan Davis each earned their way to nationals for the Bluejays.
“When we’re down to six guys and we’ve been injured, we could have easily taken nobody,” MW head coach Bob Purcell said. “I thought we could get two, I was hoping for more. But with two, we’ll go in and represent the best we can as Minnesota West.”
Thompson finished 1-3 at 133 pounds to claim sixth. Because of the difficulty of his weight class, he was selected as a wild card to advance.
Davis was 2-2 at 141 to finish fifth and advance to nationals.
At 125, Danny Cordido suffered two close losses and finished 0-2 on the day.
Julio Casillas was 1-3 to claim sixth at 174, but was not selected as a wild card.
At 197, Cody Gehrke was 0-2, while Jon Musa was 1-3 at heavyweight.
Thompson and Davis will compete Feb. 26-27 at the national tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.
