Area teachers among Teacher of the Year semifinalists

WINDOM — Two area teachers have been named as semifinalists for the 2010 Minnesota Teacher of the Year award by Education Minnesota, the statewide educators’ union.

Laura Alvstad, a 7-12 grade English teacher in the Windom Area Public School District; and Monica Headlee, an 11th-grade chemistry teacher in the Tracy Area Public School District, were among 32 semifinalists chosen from an initial field of 107 candidates from across the state.

Judges will meet again in late March to select about 10 finalists from the group of semifinalists. The Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be announced May 2 at The Northland Inn in Brooklyn Park.
