Letter: VA program expanding into region

We are happy to announce that the Sioux Falls VA Medical Foster Home (MFH) Program is being expanded to include an area within 50 miles of the Spirit Lake Community Based Outpatient Clinic. This is an exciting new program that provides high-quality care in a home setting for veterans. In addition, it gives people in the local communities a way to “give back” to veterans who served our country.

The MHF program offers a safe, long-term environment and is an economical housing alternative for veterans who are unable to remain in their own homes because of health issues.

To serve veterans from northwestern Iowa and southwestern Minnesota, we are seeking caregivers who are willing to take veterans into their homes to prove 24-hour supervision and personal assistance. The caregivers are paid monthly by the veteran, with the cost of care being dependent on the amount of care the veteran needs. As the Medical Foster Home Coordinator, I will assist the veteran if he/she is in need of financial assistance to find help to pay for the care.
