COTTAGE GROVE - More than 400 boxes of Girl Scout cookies were reported stolen Thursday night from a garage in Lakeland.

The Washington County sheriff's office said Friday that a homeowner in the 100 block of Quamwell Ave. S. reported that an attached garage had been burglarized.

The cookie caper made off with 150 cases -- 407 assorted boxes -- of Girl Scout cookies. The loss is valued at $1,400 to $1,500, sheriff's Cmdr. Patrick Olson said.

"They were having a (cookie) pick-up day and they had left the residence for a little while," Olson said.

The residents thought that a garage door was latched, but it was unlocked, he said.

The burglary occurred between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff's office said. It was reported about 7 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators were talking to the family to get more information before releasing further details, Olson said.

Anyone with knowledge of the incident is asked to call the sheriff's office TIPline at (651) 430-7850.
