ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A Senate panel looks at undoing a law that led to an alcohol ban at TCF Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

State law currently requires the university to sell alcohol throughout the stadium or not at all. University regents voted to ban alcohol throughout the new stadium last year after the Legislature and Gov. Tim Pawlenty passed the law.

The proposal from Democratic Sen. Dan Sparks of Austin would repeal the all-or-nothing requirement. Instead, it would be up to the university to determine where in the stadium alcohol could be sold. Proceeds from alcohol sales would go to a scholarship fund for athletes.

A higher education spending committee considers the bill on Tuesday.
