WORTHINGTON — On a 3-1 vote this morning, Nobles County Commissioners decided to move forward with a public hearing in Commissioner District 4 to discuss filling the seat vacated by Norm Gallagher.
The public hearing, required within 30 days of a vacancy, will allow commissioners to collect comments from the public. The meeting is slated for 7 p.m. April 19, in the board room of the Nobles County Government Center. At that time, residents of the district could choose to recommend an individual to fill out the remaining eight months of Gallagher’s term, or request a special election.
Commissioner Vern Leistico suggested the hearing following considerable discussion on the protocol for a special election.
“After that public hearing, we can make an appointment or decide to have a special election,” Leistico said.
Leistico, along with Commissioners Diane Thier and Marv Zylstra voted in favor of the public hearing, while Commissioner David Benson was opposed.
