WORTHINGTON — Worthington High School spring activities are under way!
The Trojan softball team opened the spring sports season with a victory over the Fairmont Cardinals in their season opener on March 30. The WHS track teams have participated in two indoor meets and traveled to Murray County Central on Friday for their first outdoor meet of the season. The Trojans’ boys tennis team opened their season on Thursday, when it hosted New Ulm at the Minnesota West courts. The Trojan Baseball team had their season opener rained out on Tuesday, but faced Red Rock Central Thursday in a 4:30 p.m. game at the Junior High field. The WHS boys golf team travels to Lakefield for a triangular with Southwest Star Concept and Red Rock Central on Tuesday, April 13. The Trojans’ girls golf team will open its season on Friday, April 16 at Sheldon, Iowa.
Participation numbers look excellent for all spring sports, with the following totals: Softball, 42; baseball, 33; girls track, 30; boys track, 52; boys tennis, 22; girls golf, 16; boys golf, 19. It’s encouraging to see Worthington High School students take an interest in extra-curricular activities.
For those with a desire to watch our Trojans this spring, the home contests are played at a variety of sites. Golf matches are at both the Worthington Country Club and Prairie View Golf Links. Trojan softball games are played at Centennial fields. The baseball games are played at the Junior High field. The Trojan track team hosts five meets this spring at Trojan Field. The tennis meets are played at the Minnesota West courts.
In addition, the Trojan Speech team has completed a busy regular season and will be competing in the Section 3A tournament at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall on Saturday, April 17. Upcoming home WHS music performances include the WHS Dinner Theatre at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the high school cafeteria, the all-school orchestra concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 11 in the WHS gym, the WHS Choirs spring concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 in the WHS gym, and the “Band Bash” at 7 p.m. Monday, May 24 in the high school gym.
